Peptides are divided in four categories/ types;
1. The signal peptides like Matrixyl (Palmitoyl Pentapeptide -4 ) that we find in the Olay Regenerist.
Marixyl 3000 (a combination of 2 peptides; Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide -7 & Palmitoyl Oligopeptide ) promises to stimulate the synthesis of Collagen I, IV, VII & XVII along with Nidogen I. We can find Matrixyl 3000 in many serums and creams.
The latest Matrixyl is the Synthe-6 (Palmitoyl Tripeptide -38 ) which is a rather expensive ingredient! It promises to stimulate the synthesis of Collagen I, III, IV, Fibronectin, Hyaluronic Acid and Laminin -5.
2. The next categorie are the carrier peptides like Copper Peptides ( Copper Tripeptide -1 ). The problem with these is that they are big molecules and dermatologists say that they cannot penetrate the Epidermis. But even so they are very moisturising on the skin.
Copper Peptides are both carrier and signal peptides.
3. Third categorie and a very interesting one are the Neurotransmitter Inhibitor peptides. They inhibit acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction and by that they inhibit the repetitive contraction of the intrinsic muscles of facial expression and thereby reduce lines. In other words they give us a Botox- like effect, not as strong though..

4. The last categorie are the Enzyme Inhibitory peptides such as Eyeliss that is a combination of 2 peptides ( Dipeptide Valyl-Tryptophane & Lipopeptide Pal- GQPR ) plus the flavonoid Heperidin (Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone ). Eyeliss promises to reduce puffiness by reducing fluid build-up at the under eye area (reduce eye bags ), also minimise dark circles by strengthening the capillaries and boost skin's elasticity.
